The feelgood factor of knitting and creating something from scratch are widely known, but perhaps you will be surprised to learn that evidence-based research shows knitting has positive benefits both physical and mental, says Vanessa Bailey at the Woollery on Warminster Road.
With this is mind the Woollery is holding a wellbeing workshop on Wednesday 23rd October 10.30-1pm.
“The session will be facilitated by Westbury health trainers Chris and Bev where they will be offering mindfulness meditations and teaching some relaxation techniques,” said Vanessa.
“Chris and Bev will be available for brief 1-2-1s on the day, and referrals can also be taken for additional ongoing support with a health trainer, blood pressure readings will be on offer too.
“We hope this morning will be an oasis of calm and inspiration for you and you will take away some practical tools to support your wellbeing practice at home alongside your knitting.
“Knitting has been shown to: Lower blood pressure; reduce depression and anxiety; slow the onset of dementia; distract from chronic pain; provide an opportunity for creativity (at a time of reducing capacity); increase a sense of wellbeing; reduce loneliness and isolation; increase sense of usefulness and inclusion in society and is as relaxing as yoga.
“There will be free healthy snacks on offer to accompany your tea and coffee. The event is a drop-in, is open to all and free to attend – no need to book. We look forward to seeing you.”
