The Welsh Sinfonia Wind Quintet will give a concert starting at 7.30 pm at Edington Priory Church on Saturday 6th May as part of the Edington Arts 2017 season.
The quintet is composed of the Principal wind players from Wales’ leading chamber orchestra, a talented and innovative ensemble based in Cardiff which has played two highly successful concerts at the Wiltshire Music Centre in 2016 and 2017. The combination of french horn, flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon is a relatively unusual combination of instruments, but one which has excited and intrigued composers from Haydn to Ibert.
The quintet has chosen a sparkling and varied programme of music spanning several centuries written for quintets, quartets, trios and solo oboe; a concerto by Haydn, divertimenti, shanties, Hungarian dances and more from Arnold, Rossini, Ibert, Farcas, Reicha and Britten. The players will introduce each piece, wine and soft drinks will be available in the interval, and the evening promises to be a hugely enjoyable highlight of the Edington Arts 2017 calendar. Full programme information is on the website, www.edingtonarts.org.
