Westbury entertained Biddestone in the latest West of England League Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Premier 2 match hoping to put behind them last weeks defeat against league leaders Cheltenham.
Westbury won the toss and immediately decided to bat first. Coles and Whiting made a confident start with Whiting the dominant batsman. They took the total to 44 when Whiting was dismissed for 19. Coles was then joined by Varley and they continued to score quickly and the first 50 came up in 45 minutes off 69 balls but then with the total on 97 Biddestone dismissed Coles for 35. Varley was then joined at the wicket by Dickinson who began confidently and with Varley completely dominating the bowling the 100 came up in the 20th over.
At the Drinks break after 25 overs Westbury had scored 126 for the loss of just 2 wickets. When the total reached 190 Varley completed his 100 off 115 balls in 99 minutes. Shortly afterwards Biddestone struck by dismissing Dickinson for 25 with the total at 190. With the total standing at 207 Varley was dismissed for a fine 112. It was then left to Mills with the help of the lower order to take Westbury to 271 for 6 wickets at the end of their allotted 50 overs., with Mills unbeaten on 30.
When Biddestone batted they made a bad start and were soon 95-5. The Westbury bowling attack gradually worked their way through the opposing batting lineup, reducing the opposition to 184 for 9 wickets. However after some steadfast resolve Biddestone finished on 202 for the loss of 9 wickets from their allotted 50 overs, leaving Westbury winners by 69 runs. A strong team bowling performance resulted in a spread of wickets for all of the bowlers.
