Westbury entertained Trowbridge on Saturday 8th August in the latest West of England League Wiltshire Division.
Westbury were hoping to do the double over the current league leaders and also hoping to put behind them the last two defeats against Calne and Malmesbury.
Westbury made two changes from the previous week’s defeat against Malmesbury, with Ben Whiting and Clark Evans coming in for Kayleb Gooderson and Jack Brooks.
Trowbridge won the toss and decided to put Westbury into bat.
Westbury opened with the regular openers Mills and MacDonald and they took the total to 10 when Trowbridge struck and MacDonald was caught behind for 2.
Mills was then joined by Gibbons and they immediately attacked the bowling, and it came as a surprise when Mills was caught behind for 16 with the total at 31.
Gibbons was then joined by the Westbury captain Senneck, and they attacked the bowling and the innings mounted rapidly in so much so that the 50 came up in the 12th over. When the total reached 111 Trowbridge struck for the third time when Gibbons was out caught for a rapid 44. Shortly afterwards Whiting was caught for 5 with the total at 131.
Gill then joined the Westbury captain and they also attacked the bowling in so much that the total rose quickly.
When the total reached 222 Gill was out for a good 31. Senneck, with the help of the lower order, took the Westbury innings to 266 for 6 wickets off their allotted 50 overs. Senneck was unbeaten on 131 off 136 balls.
When Trowbridge batted they made a bad start when Carroll was caught behind for 8 with the total at 12. Then the Trowbridge captain Reynolds was joined by Julyan and they immediately start running quickly between the wickets and total was rising rapidly, and the first 50 arrived in the 19th over, and when the total reached 122 Reynolds was bowled by Oakley for a fine 48.
Shortly afterwards Westbury struck four times when the total fell from 122 to 153. Then Mitchell, with the help of the lower order, took the total to 212 for 9 wickets. Julyan had the best score of 82.
This was a very good team performance which makes the last two weeks rather surprising. Hopefully if Westbury win their last three games they might have a deciding interest in the final outcome of the league.
