Westbury entertained Malmesbury in the latest West of England Wiltshire Division League 2015 season, hoping to build on their recent winning run.
Westbury made two changes from the previous week’s win against Calne with Nick Whiting and Jack Brooks coming in for Ben Whiting and Dave Wade.
Malmesbury won the toss and decided to bat first on the fastest wicket at Westbury this season.
Westbury opened with the regular opening bowlers Carroll and Senneck and they attacked the Malmesbury batsman with hostility and accuracy in so much so that they reduced their opponents to 56 for 7. Eventually Westbury bowled out Malmesbury out for 61 within 21 overs.
Andy Carroll had the best figures of 4-19 ( off 8 overs) ably supported by Richard Oakley 3-6 and Alex Senneck 2-21 ( off 7 overs).
When Westbury batted they opened with a new partnership of Richard Mills and Jared MacDonald and they took the total to 36 when Mills was out for 10. Then MacDonald was joined by Gibbons and they had no problems in reaching the target of 62 for the loss of one wicket. MacDonald was unbeaten on 28 off 41 balls and Gibbons unbeaten on 22 off 10 balls.
This was the best performance by the Westbury team as a unit and next week’s match against Trowbridge will take a big step in the league as Trowbridge’s unbeaten record ended.
