Westbury-based online book retailer, A Great Read Ltd, has been shortlisted for a prestigious award from The Booksellers Association: Book Retailer of the Year 2021.
The British Book Awards (aka The Nibbies) will take place virtually this week on 13th May, and A Great Read Ltd is shortlisted for Book Retailer of the Year alongside the big names of Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Blackwell’s and WH Smith.
“This was a team effort, and we’re very much David against Goliath!” said David Wavre, managing director. “This is the first time that family-owned A Great Read has entered, and the Westbury team of 25 are delighted to have made it this far against such prestigious company.”
A Great Read, based on the Woodland Trading Estate in Eden Vale Road, was established in 2007 and since then has delivered over a million books
“We’re a tight-knit team who care about providing the very best service possible,” says the company. “We are continually working on better ways to serve our customers, and to create a brilliant experience and book community for book lovers.
“We are also dedicated to being as eco-friendly as we can possibly be as a bookseller, which is why all of our packaging is either recyclable or biodegradable. We have thousands of titles available – the latest and best books, delivered promptly, direct to you.”
The Booksellers Association is a trade body founded to promote retail bookselling and represents 95% of British retail booksellers.
The association said that A Great Read “found itself in greater demand than ever in 2020 as bookshops closed and people went online to buy. Sales through its retail website more than doubled — though other platforms like Amazon and eBay remain a larger source of revenue — and it adjusted to Covid restrictions to preserve fulfilment. For customers, the brand stands out for its service and promotions, while publishers like its firm sale policy and bulk buying.”
