A NINE-year-old Westbury boy mingled with celebrities when he was nominated for an Animal Hero award.
Alfie Waker was nominated in the ‘’young animal enthusiast’ category in the awards, which are run by the Daily Mirror and the RSPCA.
The awards recognise and celebrate those who have shown outstanding commitment to improve the life of animals.
Alfie was nominated after taking on a series of fundraising challenges to raise money for HorseWorld, a horse rescue and rehabilitation charity based in Bristol.
As a finalist in his category, Alfie attended a champagne reception at the Langham Hotel in London where he rubbed shoulders with stars such as Ben Fogle, Deborah Meaden, and the band McFly.
Alfie’s mum Hayley said, “The evening was totally amazing and Alfie had a great time. In our eyes each and every nominee was a winner and the prize was being there.
“During the champagne reception we rubbed shoulders with many celebrities. I think Alfie’s favourite was Deborah Meaden – he is a Strictly Come Dancing Fan – and to be treated with a performance from McFly was great.
“Some of the celebrities like Bill Oddie and Brian May were past Alfie’s understanding but when we explained who they were, he really did appear star struck.
“We are immensely proud of Alfie and have been overwhelmed by the lovely messages and support he has received via social media.”
