THE final draft plan for the Westbury campus will be revealed at the area board meeting next week.
The proposal will be presented by members of the Westbury Community Campus Team, which is made up of community representatives, at the area board meeting on Thursday 11th December at The Laverton. This will be the final opportunity to see the plans before they are submitted to Wiltshire County Council for review.
Consultation into what Westbury people might want in a local campus has been extensive and ranged from surveys, through to stalls at fayres. While some towns such as Corsham and Melksham have plumped for a single site campus, local Westbury residents voted overwhelmingly to retain three sites. These are the town’s famous Victorian swimming pool, the Leighton Recreation Centre and the library.
People attending the area board will be able to see an exhibition and pick up a copy of the summary of the working proposal. Jonathon Seed, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for campuses and communities, will also attend the meeting.
Cllr David Jenkins, who is the team’s area board representative said, “We’re really excited to see the final project come together. It’s something the campus team has been working on for 18 months, and it’s time to hand over to the cabinet.
“We’re looking forward to the meeting, and hope a lot of people will come along to see the plans. Westbury’s campus consultation had a bigger response than any other in Wiltshire; it’s very encouraging to see so many people getting involved. We hope they will be happy with the proposal.”
The meeting is open to the public and will involve a presentation of the team’s plans, as well as an open discussion. If the proposal is approved by the area board, it will be forwarded to the Wiltshire Council Cabinet to finalise plans.
Everyone is very welcome to the meeting on Thursday 11th December which starts at 7.00pm with refreshments and a chance to look at the display from 6.30pm. For more information contact area board manager Sally Hendry on 01225 718627.
