WESTBURY CC narrowly lost to visitors Rockhampton as they snatched victory with the last ball of the game.
Needing eight runs off the last over the Gloucestershire side crept over the line to claim a victory that was in part thanks to Westbury’s generous bowling which gave away 30 extras.
Westbury won the toss and decided to bat on a surface that was slow and more suited to bowling as the batters struggled.
Dan Gill was dismissed early on before a 100 run partnership between Tom Cullen and Jared Mcdonald led the hosts into a good position. Cullen was bowled by Guy Brothwood and caught by Rowan Cartlidge before Alex Senneck added 13 and Simon Rose notched up 24 to leave Westbury on 170-3 after their 50 overs.
Westbury started their bowling attack in fine form with Andy Carroll finding the wicket of Rockhampton opener William Tyler as he went for a duck.
A 61 partnership by Cartlidge and Brothwood helped the visitors recover before Westbury found some form and rattled through six wickets to leave the match evenly poised going into the final over before Rockhampton secured the victory with the final ball.
Jared Mcdonald was Westbury’s star with the bat registering 65 not out whilst Simon Rose shone with the ball as he took 3-28 off 10 overs.
