Dance, music, a sprinkle of comedy and a few surprises will bring Christmas to life in Westbury on the evening of Saturday 1st December.

As part of a day of seasonal fun, which includes a Christmas Market, children’s funfair, Santa’s grotto and the town’s Christmas Tree Festival, an evening of spectacular entertainment is planned for the town.

Special guests will include Father Christmas, and the town’s Christmas lights will be switched on at 7pm.

Westbury Town Council has urged locals to allow extra time to get to the event as it is likely to be very popular.

Town mayor Ian Cunningham said. “We’ve laid on some fantastic entertainment this year and we also have plenty of food and refreshments being sold from a number of vendors in the Market Place. We look forward to the community coming together for this very special annual event.

“The whole town will be open with seasonal activities taking place in the Market Place, Westbury High Street, Maristow Street, the Parish Hall and All Saints Church. We plan a Christmas celebration event to remember! We all hope you can join us.”

Westbury Town Council has been working with Leander Morales of Gm3 Music on the packed day and evening of seasonal celebrations.

“It’s been great working on this production with the team at the town council,” said Leander. “We’ve all spent a lot of time behind the scenes to create something special for the people of Westbury and I hope we are able to rise above and beyond people’s expectations.

“This isn’t just about switching on the Christmas lights, it’s about people coming together for one night to celebrate the town that they live in, to celebrate being a part of a community.”

A large stage and screen will be set up in the Market Place, and highlights for the event include…

The Will Blake Band

The popular 7-piece band return to Westbury having rocked the town at this year’s Summer Celebrations concert back in July.

Led by pianist/singer/ songwriter/musical virtuoso Will Blake, be prepared for some a high-energy captivating performance fuelled with singalong classics from his full 7-piece band.

PSG Community Choir

More than 30 members of PSG (Pop/Song/Gospel) are expected to take to the stage fresh from an afternoon show in North Wiltshire. The collective will give the evening concert the perfect musical kick-start to the Westbury Christmas celebrations.

Frome Street Bandits

Charismatic, talented and highly entertaining!

The Frome Street Bandits always seem to turn up when least expected.

A popular hit across the southwest, The Street Bandits are their own marching festival, bringing a unique flavour to any event and always leaving a smile on the faces of those who witness their musical antics and talents! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself surprised!

Molly Green

Westbury singer/performer Molly Green delivered a jaw-dropping performance when she took to the stage and performed to over a 1,000 people back in the summer. The Matravers student showed that the school’s reputation for being specialists in the performing arts is well-deserved.

ALW School of dance.

Founder Amy Watts believes that dancing should be fun, exciting and a great place to make new friends. At ALW, the aim is to encourage every dancer to be the best they can be, not just through dance but also through building confidence and self-esteem.

Amy has been hosting her weekly courses for a number of years, giving hundreds of children the opportunity to realise their potential, not only to be fantastic dancers but also to be able to perform in front of a live audience.

The evening will also feature a live appearance from Father Christmas, courtesy of Westbury Lions!

Not only is there all this fantastic free entertainment in the evening but there will be lots to do during the day. A children’s funfair will be in the High Street from 11am and Maristow Street, Edward Street and the Parish Hall will be full of market stalls from 3-9pm.

Father Christmas will be in his grotto in the Market Place from 3-5pm.

The music, dancing and entertainment in the Market Place will take place from 5pm. Look out for your free pull-out brochure in the next edition of the White Horse News. Details can also be found by visiting the Christmas in Westbury Facebook page – www.     facebook.com/ christmasinwestbury
