There’s a real buzz around Westbury Cricket Club as the new season approaches.
The 1st XI play in the West of England Premier League Wiltshire Division and will be captained by Tom Lucas in 2026.
Tom said “It’s a huge honour for me to captain the 1st XI for the 2026 season. I want to thank Kane Scott for everything he’s put into the club over the last two seasons. He’s set high standards, and it’s now on us to keep driving those forward.
“We’ve got a talented squad, a great mix of experience and youth, and a group that’s hungry to compete. The expectation is simple, we turn up every week ready to perform, back each other, and play positive, hard cricket.
“Just as importantly, we want to represent Westbury the right way, with energy, resilience, and pride. If we get that right, the results will take care of themselves. We’re looking forward to getting started and putting on a show for everyone who supports the club.”
The 2nd XI play in the Wiltshire League Division 5 and are once again captained by Osmond Shallow.
Osmond said, “The 2nd XI enters the new season with real momentum after a solid mid-table finish, and the goal is clear turn last year’s consistency into promotion.
“Squad depth is the strongest it’s been in years. Competition for places is fierce, and that internal pressure should translate directly into improved performances.
“As the club’s second team, the dual purpose of developing talent while remaining competitive is well understood, but the emphasis this season is firmly on results. With enthusiasm high, depth across the squad, and a clear vision in place, there’s every reason to believe this could be one of the most successful seasons in recent memory.”
The 3rd XI play in the Wiltshire League Division 10 and their captain Simon Higgins said, “There’s a real buzz around the 3rd XI heading into the new season with plenty of players set to be involved. With a great mix of old, experienced faces and plenty of youth, competition for places is high and standards are rising across the squad.
“After last year’s mid-table finish, the aim is clear, push for promotion. With a return to fortress Bratton for home games, along with strong depth and enthusiasm, it promises to be a competitive and enjoyable season ahead.”
Westbury have got two women’s teams playing in both hardball and softball leagues. Their captain Ellie Osborne said, “We head into a summer of cricket with added inspiration, as England hosts the Women’s T20 World Cup on home soil. After narrowly missing out on the Softball title last year, we go again with a mix of new and familiar faces returning to the side. Building on our winter training, we’re also continuing to develop our hardball game.
“An exciting addition this year is the introduction of our girls’ team, a fantastic step forward in growing the women’s and girls’ section of the club. We’re looking forward to a season full of positivity, passion and purpose, with more women and girls enjoying both playing and watching cricket.”
Club chairman Steve Edwards added, “None of this would be possible without our sponsors and supporters who we greatly appreciate. If you would be interested in becoming a sponsor, then we would love to hear from you. You can become a sponsor at Westbury and District Cricket Club from as little as £50 and play your part in supporting local cricket and the community.”
