SCHOOLS, groups and local people across Westbury are gearing up to raise money for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day this Friday, 13th March.
The Red Nose fundraising day will see people across the country raise millions of pounds, and the Westbury community will be joining in the efforts.
Comic Relief runs every two years, alternating with its sister project Sport Relief. The event began in 1985 to help raise cash to combat famine in Ethiopia. Since then, the appeal has raised over £950million to tackle poverty and social injustice across the UK, Africa, and some of the world’s poorest countries.
The campaign comes to a climax with Comic Relief’s BBC TV programme, which will be headed by celebrities John Bishop, Lenny Henry, Davina McCall, David Walliams and Claudia Winkleman.
The theme for Comic Relief 2015 is ‘Make your face funny for money’.
Westbury Junior School will be having a non-uniform day and there will be a cake sale with treats baked by students and staff.
Pupils at Westbury Leigh Primary School have been invited to go to school wearing wigs, funny glasses, or even with their face painted, and have a suggested donation of £1 per child.
Children at Bratton Primary School will be setting up stalls of their own to raise money
