A WEEK after this year’s Westbury Festival came to a close, organisers have hailed it a ‘brilliant success’ and are already planning for next year.
With over 40 events taking place over two weeks, the festival line up featured something for everyone, from a Star Wars-themed arts and craft session to an Antiques Roadshow and brewery tour.
The range of events also included live poetry, rock opera, jazz, talks on history and gardening and much more. Organisers were pleased with the variety of the programme and hope people were able to find something they were interested in.
Festival chair Ian Cunningham said, “The festival as a whole was a brilliant success.
“As usual some events did much better than we predicted but nearly everything made its targets and all were worthwhile. The folk night which closed the festival went well. Kirsty Clinch was very good as always. Al O’Kane was brilliant and the Fellow Travellers were good fun and entertaining as billed. It was a good show.
“A lot of charities raised money from being partners in the festival which was great and we had an increased number of partners who used the festival period and publicity to run events and increase awareness of their activities, which is great.
“Thank you for the support from people in the town who bought tickets, Hills Waste and Elkins Ford as main festival sponsors with support from Cooperative Funeral Care, Rygor, Westbury Town Council and R-ED.
“I’d particularly like to thank EJ Crafts in Maristow Street for generously being a box office for us throughout the festival and the White Horse News for taking so much interest and continued support.
“Lots of people and businesses helped in all kinds of ways – but, not least, the extremely hard working festival committee members.
“We also want to thank again all those performers who performed for free at so many events, which allowed us to have so many that were free or very, very cheap.
“As usual we end the festival with lots to do and the usual requests for next year; sponsors (of all sizes), committee members, helpers, places to put posters and partners who’d like to be in next year’s programme.
“We will be back next year – which is one of our main aims in any festival!”
