Don’t miss the Arts & Craft Market taking place today at Westbury Leigh Community Hall. There is a good selection of stalls selling everything from locally made jams and food to jewellery and stationery. Little Lunch 8 – Piano Duet. 1.10 pm.
A selection of piano duets to be enjoyed by everyone, including movements from ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ by Mussorgsky, ‘Mother Goose Suite’ by Ravel and ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ by Tchaikovsky. TWO IN ONE was formed in 2014 when Ruth and Pauline, who have known each other as musicians and colleagues for a number of years, decided to get together to play piano duets for fun. They have both enjoyed dipping into the wealth of repertoire available for four hands. They gave a very successful lunchtime concert at last year’s festival, have performed twice at Greenhill Cottage Gallery, Southwick to a packed audience and have delighted listeners during the Beckington Open Studios weekend and on several occasions for Music at Greenacre, Crockerton. Although our daily concert performers are talented professional and amateur professionals, today is given over to our local schools. Among those performing are pupils from Westbury Junior, Bitham Brook and Westbury Leigh Primary schools. All Saints Church, Westbury, BA13 3BT. Free.

Festival Rhyme Time. 10am.
Songs & Rhymes for under 3s and their parent/carer. Join us for lots of bouncing, clapping, songs and rhymes for babies and toddlers aged 0-3 years and their parent/carer. Times are: 10 – 10.30 am for babies and 11 – 11.30 am for toddlers. Westbury Library, Westbury House, Edward Street, Westbury BA13 3BD. Free session, no need to book.
Little Lunch 10 – Guitar Duo. 1.10 pm.
Bruce Treasure and Al Summers each have many decades of performing experience in various styles of music. Both are multi-instrumentalists and music teachers. Bruce is a successful touring musician who has studied flamenco music in Spain and Al trained as a lute player and is a composer who concentrates on work in music education. They will be playing classical Latin and Spanish music including their own arrangements of Handel & Bach as well as folk tunes and exciting and beautiful pieces from more recent times. Rocking at the Hollies. 9pm.
Friday night is ROCK night! Great food and company can be found at the Hollies every day but from 9 o’clock, it is all about the rock! Once again the Hollies is hosting a live rock band in the bar, free to watch whilst you enjoy a drink (or two). So get your feet tapping, your hands clapping and enjoy the coolest rock night in town. Harmonica & Rhythm Workshop. 10am.
Back by popular demand, this lively harmonica and rhythm workshop. Suitable for all ages, you don’t need any experience or even your own harmonica, Nigel will provide them both! Blues master, Nigel Ricketts, will take you through the basics of playing a blues harmonica and try out some great rhythms to play along to. Be amazed at what you can achieve with friendly expert tuition. Nigel guarantees you will be making music by the end of the session. Note that spaces are limited so booking is advised. Nigel (a DBS registered trainer) will be providing 10 hold diatonic harmonicas in the key of C (and after the session you will probably know what that means)!. Writing the Short Story. 11am.
Writing the short story – or – Rules are Made to be Broken Aren’t They? Do you write short stories? Perhaps you have thought of writing a short story but are not sure where to start? Well local author and broadcaster Richard Platts offers some thoughts on the genre; how to start and how to revitalise what we offer. Come along and see how he does it, pick up some tips and ask those burning questions you always wanted to ask an author. Richard is a local prize-winning author. His short story ‘The Writer’ won an award at Alton Arts Festival and ‘Plastic Bugs’ won first prize in the short fiction competition at Corsley Show. His stories have been published in the Daily Telegraph Creative Writing anthology and his own collection of short stories was self-published on Amazon for Kindle. A second volume ‘ Life Struggles’ will follow later this year. Richard lives in Bratton and presents a weekly literary programme on Warminster Community Radio. Folk Night. 7.30 pm.
Kirsty Clinch is a local singer / songwriter known for her red locks and described as having the voice of an angel, with wise captivating lyrics, cute melodies and unique guitar playing. After being told her music had a country twist, she took a journey alone to Nashville to find herself and now she’s back with more inspiration than ever. Mak Seka, from Senegal, sings in his native language of wolof. His songs tell of life in general and the beauty and soul in which he conveys his songs seems universally understandable. His rhythmically complex and fluid guitar style draws on his roots with the influences of blues and English folk guitar styles to create something that is beautifully unique.
