LOCAL businessman, Sam Gooding, has completed an ultra-marathon, running 100km non-stop in less than 17 hours to raise over £1,200 for charity.
Sam, who is the director of Gooding Accounts, took part in the ‘Race to the Stones’ last month, running along the Ridgeway, the oldest path in the UK starting at the village of Lewknor in Oxfordshire and finishing at the Avebury Stone Circle.
The money raised from the challenge will go to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and will contribute towards Gooding Accounts’ goal of raising £10,000 for the local charity.
The team at the accountancy firm on Warminster Road, have chosen to fundraise for Wiltshire Air Ambulance after an employee’s daughter was killed in a car accident in January. So far, the team has raised over £6,000.
Speaking to White Horse News about his ultra-marathon challenge Sam said, “The day was a lot warmer than you’d want! But I really enjoyed it – I was surprised by how much I did. During the day I connected with supporters back home using ‘Facebook Live’ and then generated lots of support and donations, which made it worthwhile.
“I can’t thank people enough for all the donations, it really makes a difference. Gooding Accounts has always supported local charities like the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. I think that’s important as you can see the benefit of them in the local area, and we all might need them ourselves at some point.”
Sam’s ultra-marathon is one of many fundraisers that the Gooding Accounts team have taken part in – other employees have jumped out of planes, taken part in marathon walks, and the team has organised quiz nights. They will be hosting a charity race night on Saturday 19th October at the White Horse Country Park and a quiz night on Friday 22nd November at The Farmhouse, Southwick.
