Westbury’s annual Christmas lights switch-on event will return next month promising a day of festive fun and family-friendly entertainment.
The event will kick off at 1pm on Saturday 6th December in Westbury town centre with an artisan Christmas market lining the High Street.
At 3pm, a winter wonderland featuring Santa’s grotto, fairground rides, ponies in festive dress and live reindeer will be open behind the library.
“This year’s event promises to be our biggest and brightest yet, packed with festive cheer, family-friendly entertainment and plenty of seasonal sparkle,” said Tracey Morris, events coordinator at Westbury Town Council, which organises the event.
Live entertainment
Throughout the day there will be live entertainment at the War Memorial, including Westbury’s primary schools’ choirs, Trowbridge and District Youth Band, One Voice Community Choir, Conor Smith and Belle Street.
There will also be a puppet show at 1.55pm, a magic show at 3.30pm and a roaming ice princess character from 4.30pm.
“In the Market Place, we have a festive food court where revellers can indulge in seasonal treats, including a roast turkey roll with all the trimmings, a cosy hot chocolate and mulled wine bar, Jamaican food and Veli’cious,” said Tracey.
“The Market Place stage will host live music acts throughout the day including Open Road, Renewal Gospel Choir and local band Sad Dad Club bringing festive sounds and party vibes leading up to the big moment when Westbury’s Christmas lights are switched on – transforming the town into a twinkling winter wonderland.”
The winner of the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition will have a short ceremony before the Christmas light switch-on takes place at 6pm.
“Gather with friends, family and neighbours as Westbury lights up for Christmas. We can’t wait to celebrate the start of the Christmas season with you!” added Tracey.
