WESTBURY and Warminster Youth Club recently enjoyed a firework display with residents of Watersmead care home. Care home residents and youth club members were treated to a special firework display as well as roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate.
Leader of the youth club Beth Mullins said, “On Wednesday 9th November we were lucky enough to be invited in to Watersmead care home for the members to meet the residents and to share their fireworks display.
“We had 31 young people attend the session and 23 wanted to see the fireworks. Our members were not only treated to a display they were also able to stand around the fire to roast marshmallows and have hot chocolate!
“This was all made possible by Natasha Wheeler who is Watersmead’s events manager and also a youth leader with the youth club. Watersmead were kind enough to delay the display till after bonfire night to allow us to hold our annual Halloween party when the young people dressed up carved pumpkins and cllr Carol King was kind enough to bring in homemade pumpkin pie and pumpkin cake. The verdict from the young people was that pumpkin cake was the best but the pie was nice.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to Carol for coming in and a massive thank you to Tash for being the super star she is and arranging for us to share Watersmead’s firework display. Thank you to George for setting off the fireworks as without him there wouldn’t be a display, and a huge thank you to Watersmead for inviting us in.
“Thank you as well to Dave Hickory who gave up his time and stayed at the Westbury Community Project to play board games with those who didn’t want to go to see the fireworks but most of all a massive thank you to our members as they are who make the club. Over the last two weeks we have been lucky enough to bring together and work with different people from the community to give the young people different and varied sessions and for that we are very grateful.”
Westbury Youth Club runs every Wednesday during term time, 6-7:30pm at Westbury Community Project on Eden Vale Road for 11–19-year-olds and up to 25 with learning disabilities.
