Local schools from the Westbury area gathered together at Matravers School for their annual musical extravaganza, The Lions Concert on Tuesday 17th March.
Each year, The Lions Club gives generously to each school to support their music budgets – a very welcome gift, particularly for those schools who struggle to maintain their stocks of instruments and sheet music.
This year, Westbury Leigh’s advanced recorder group joined the concert to perform Verdi’s La Donna e Mobile led by Mrs Debbie Grimsey. The choir’s hard work also paid off after a flawless performance of ‘Build It High’. The finale saw all schools join together and to sing an arrangement of ‘Over The Rainbow’/’What A Wonderful World’.
Rhiannon, a year 6 pupil said, “It was scary going up on the stage at Matravers but it was really good fun.”
Nicola Clamp and Rachel Dunbar, who lead the choir said, ‘’The children did a fantastic job, singing enthusiastically to a packed auditorium. The Lions Concert is a great opportunity for local schools to perform together and our pupils really enjoyed the evening.”
