A recent table top sale in Westbury Leigh proved a huge hit with both locals and visitors.
The event, held on 22nd February, raised money for Westbury Leigh Community Hall by inviting traders to rent a table and sell their wares. Vendors travelled from across the county to take part.
Pauline Clark, who came from Trowbridge, said, “I sell handbags and do a lot of crafts, but finding room at my house without getting rid of stuff is impossible now. I had a good sort out before coming here with things to sell, so I can concentrate more on my sewing room now. I’ll definitely be back.”
Sian James, from Bradford on Avon, said she hoped to return for a future sale as well. She said, “It would be great if more people knew about the event and came along. We came for the first time last year and it was really busy. At my stall, we do personalised gifts, chocolate bars, tumblers – all sorts really. I’ve just started making communication hoodies for [non-verbal] children. We do lots of SEND products, which is nice.”
As well as providing a space for sellers to showcase their products, the table top sale also brought local people together over teas and coffees while they browsed.
Westbury Leigh Hall Committee member Fer Pidden said, “We are raising funds but also opening the hall to the community. Instead of making a profit, we want to serve the community.”
Fellow committee member Lynne Mason added, “I’ve just been around and asked the stallholders if they’d like to book again for next month, and they said yes. They like to come along and chat to each other. The table is only £5, so it’s really worth it. It’s a really nice community spirit.”
Westbury Leigh Community Hall is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation run entirely by local people for the benefit of Westbury Leigh. Table top sales are held on the last Saturday of every month from 10am until 12pm. Indoor tables and outdoor pitches are available for £5.
