WESTBURY mayor, cllr David Windess, says Westbury has shown a ‘fantastic community spirit’ throughout 2013, as he delivers his Christmas message to readers of the White Horse News.
Cllr Windess says, “I would like to start by wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
“2013 has been a very difficult year for us all with the current financial climate. I hope that it improves for you all within the forthcoming year.
“But with that said, we have had some great events in Westbury showing that Westbury has a fantastic community spirit regardless of the current difficulties, so well done to you all!
“Throughout the year, Westbury has had some great events like the music and arts festival, the Remembrance parade, the Christmas main events day, and the lights switch on, which were all very well attended.
“In the forthcoming year we have some major decisions to make with regards to the suggested community campus and I urge you all to have an input as it affects us all and the future of Westbury. Please let the area board and Wiltshire Council know your thoughts as they all matter.
“We have lost some great shops in Westbury this year, like Ribbons, who will be greatly missed, but we have had some great new ones open as well, like Aldi and Beauty Retreat in Maristow Street, and the new clock shop. I wish them all the best for the future.
“I have done quite a bit for charity this year such as a charity dinner and auction, craft fayres, and I have even had my legs waxed for Children in Need! Thanks to Sue in Beauty Retreat for organising that. But I have not finished yet. I have the Bath Half Marathon in March and a parachute jump in April, as well as plans for a comedy and curry night in February.
“But I have one last thing to ask you all, with all the great organisations and the people behind them giving all their time to these organisations. It’s that time of year where we ask for nominations for civic awards so if you can think of anyone that deserves this award please contact the council for a form on 01373 822 232, or pick up a form from the council office (The Laverton). Please help us to give something back to those that give a lot selflessly.
“Thank you all for the support again this year and wishing you all a great New Year.”
