WESTBURY Mayor, cllr David Windess, is to compete in the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd March.
The Mayor is running the half marathon on behalf of Bath Cats and Dogs Home. Already he has raised £380 for the charity but hopes to raise more in the coming weeks. The Bath Half is a fast flat course, straddling both sides of the River Avon. Cllr Windess is training with a personal trainer and hopes to complete the race in two hours and 45 minutes.
He said, “I will make sure I finish even if it is on my hands and knees, but hopefully that won’t be the case!
“I hope to do a good time and since starting training I have lost over three and a half stone, so it’s doing me some good. It’s the first half marathon I have ever done and it’s going to be hard work, but it’s all for a great cause.
“I would like to thank everyone that has sponsored me so far.”
In addition to the event there will be additional entertainment to lift the spirits of the runners. A number of race charities will also be organising cheering points around the course to support runners.
Donations for cllr Windess’ charity can be made at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/davidwindess.
