This year the West Wiltshire Gauge 0 Group will be holding their popular 15th annual model railway show on Saturday, the 8th November.
The show will be held at The Paragon Hall, High Street, Westbury (BA13 3HA) and covers a wide range of model railway and associated modelling subjects to interest everyone no matter what level of skill.
For the young at heart Gogton Middle is designed to be operated by invited visitors of all ages to the show, to learn the skills needed to operate a railway layout. Ashley’s Scalextric layout can also be operated by invited visitors to enjoy the skills, thrills and spills of motor racing. For the enthusiast, the West Wiltshire Gauge 0 group’s popular exhibition layout returns again this year. Also on show will be layouts depicting Melksham in the 1950’s, Devenport Depot, Euro Star in East London, Somerset Coal fields, A Cornish Boatyard, and another Cornish Layout, Hornby Dublo from the 1950’s.
There will be demonstrations of modelling techniques, and sales stand offering a wide range of railway associated products. The refreshments on offer are once again provided by the Mere Cats, the lovely ladies from Mere supporting the Brainwave Charity.
An enjoyable day out – The show at the Paragon Hall will be open from 10.00am until 4.30pm. Entry prices this year are £4.50 adults, £3.50 Concessions and Gauge 0 Guild members, £2.00 children, Family, 2+2, £10.00.
The hall is immediately adjacent to a paying car park, where there are disabled facilities. There is a 2” step into the hall. Inside the hall, the floor is level. There is also a lower car park for longer paid parking.
Invited layouts, traders and demonstrators this year are:
• 12mm Finescale Pit, the Furzebrook Railway • 0 Gauge Layouts: Gogton Middle: A traditional layout for children and visitors to the show to operate. The Gauge 0 Guild’s DCC demonstration layout. The West Wiltshire Gauge 0 Group’s new exhibition layout New Andil Yard John Drago, the Gauge 0 Guild’s Overseas representative. The Bristol Group are attending with a display and demonstration of flower arranging in 7mm, and a display of LSWR locomotives. 5.5 Scale Tom’s Boatyard • For the 00 enthusiast, John Anderson and Paul Taylor will attend with their layout Devonport Road Locomotive Works, Ken Hedges’s layout South West MPD and Preservation Group. Jim Rainer’s Hornby Dublo 3 Rail. Seend Wiltshire in the 1950’s • In N gauge, Choates Lane, and Penboony • 009 the Benter Railway with working incline.
The Wessex Model and Toy Collectors stand this year will feature a Scalextric operated by Ashley Jones. Invited trade support this year is from Model Express of Cheddar Somerset, Eric Walford Models, David Hyde a selection of second hand railway items, A.P.K Models pre owned 0 gauge stock, The Gas Cupboard, The model shop of Trowbridge.
Demonstrations: Alan Doddington demonstrating white metal kit and loco construction, Eddie Field making trees and Jerry Clifford on 2mm finescale.
There will be a bring and buy stand, and a raffle, prizes kindly donated by the Gas Cupboard, Model Shop.
Light refreshments will be available. These are being organised by the Mere Branch of the Brainwave Charity. All proceeds for the sale of refreshments will be donated to the charity which raises money to help Children who have Cerebral Palsy, Autism, development delay, brain injuries and similar genetic conditions.
