THE mayor of Westbury has plans to combine the annual grants awards evening with the mayor’s civic reception as a way to celebrate and thank the local community groups and voluntary organisations for all they contribute to the town.
The civic event will take place on Friday 28th October at The Laverton from 6.30pm.
The mayor, cllr Sheila Kimmins said, “The mayors of Westbury, along with the other towns in the county, have in the past held a civic dinner to which other mayors, dignitaries and heads of organisations have been invited.
“Each year, organisations apply to the town council for grants. When confirmed, the applicants would be invited to a grants evening to receive and to sign for the grant. Each year the mayor choses those who he/she wishes to mark with a civic award for the work and time the recipients have given to the community of our town. Again, an awards evening was held to present these awards.
“Now we are now able to hold such events again, the October civic dinner, grants evening and civic awards evenings will be combined; the reason being that everyone, who will receive a formal invitation, continues to give their time and energy for the benefit of the community of Westbury.
“Such an event will allow all those organisations and individuals to meet in one place, talk to one another, exchange ideas, and start to build up a network of people who may be able to assist when or if a need arises. It will be an interesting evening.”
