A young motorcycle racer from Westbury hopes to speed to further success with a return to the track.
Jay Able, 20, narrowly missed out on third place in the recent Phoenix Open and then took second place in the National 600s at Cadwell Park.
His recent success comes after returning to racing following a break.
Mark, Jay’s dad, said, “With three more rounds to go, we’re hoping for even better results, especially as the bike isn’t set up yet.
“He has his sights on returning to British championship racing, hopefully by 2027, if he achieves some good results next year.”
Jay started racing at seven years old in the FAB Racing British Minimoto Championship.
Finishing third in just his first year of racing, he progressed through the classes, competing in British MiniGP70s and attaining regular podiums. He then moved on to NG Road Racing on an Aprilia RS125, and later into British Junior Supersport on a Yamaha R3.
After Covid and lockdown, he took a break from the sport but returned last year to race with NG again on a Triumph Daytona 675, achieving a couple of second places at Pembrey.
Mark added, “However, continual bike problems plagued the second half of the year and continued into the first half of this season.
“The decision was taken at the beginning of July to replace the Triumph with a Yamaha R6.”
Jay and Mark have thanked their sponsors, who have made his racing career possible.
They include E.G. Martin Ltd, All Drainage Services, Phoenix Motorcycles, NL Motor Services, Rogers Poultry Services, Westbury Motors Ltd, T. Deacon Fencing Ltd, Smiths Engine Services and DPN Cars.
