Sat. 23rd April 2022. Pre-season friendly Westbury 210- 4 wickets in 40 overs. Bristol West Indians 202 all out
WESTBURY entertained Bristol West Indians Phoenix Cricket Club in the second pre-season friendly match of the 2022 cricket season and players were hoping to put behind them their defeat against Shrewton.
Westbury made six changes with Chris Thompson, Clark Evans, Aiden Wicks, Rory White, Osmond Shalow and Adam Reeves coming in for James Clack, Daniel Gill, Kane Scott, Henry White, Garic Hopkins and Graham Reilly. Westbury won the toss and decided to bat first.
Westbury opened with Thompson and Mawson, and they put on 31 for the first wicket when Bristol West Indians struck for the first time when Mawson was bowled by Rahin Omar for 14. Shallow then came to the wicket and he was dismissed three balls later bowled by Itfaque Ahmed for 0 with the score at 33. Dylan Hulett then joined Thompson at the crease.
After 20 overs when the drinks break came, Westbury were 85 for two wickets. After the drinks break the Westbury batsman increased the scoring tempo. The Westbury 100 came up in the 24th over, shortly afterwards Hulett then completed his second 50 in successive matches. When the score reached 193, Bristol West Indians struck for the third time when Thompson was out for 63 leg before by Cadell Reid in his first innings of the season, shortly after Hulett reached his maiden 100 for Westbury made off 92 balls in 96 minutes. At the end of their allotted 40 overs Westbury had compiled 210 for four wickets.
When Bristol batted, they made a bad start and lost half their side for 92, before a fine stand of 55 between Ishtiaq Ishaq (56) and Amish Bakrania (40) who took the total to 148 when Bakrania was leg before by the Westbury overseas player Dylan Hulett.
Then there was a stubborn stand of 50 by Itfaque and Rahim Omar who took their team to 198; after that dismissal Westbury took the last two wickets quickly leaving Westbury winners by eight runs.
This was a very good team performance with the younger players coming to the fore.
