Westbury says Thank You

White Horse News has been hearing about countless acts of kindness and real community spirit as people help each other in these difficult times.

Here we say thank you to the people doing great work in our community.

Doctors, nurses and other NHS staff plus all the care workers.

Any thank you has to start with the doctors, nurses and other NHS staff plus all the care workers who are doing absolutely fantastic work. They are all doing unbelievable work and we can’t thank them enough.

Dorothy Jackson

Ryan Child, the Event Coordinator at Westbury Town Council.

I would like to nominate Ryan Child who, as the Event Coordinator at Westbury Town Council, had already proven himself a great addition to the Town Council including launching the Men’s mental health meetings at the Laverton volunteering his time to do so.

However throughout this Coronavirus crisis his passion, commitment and work ethic have gone above and beyond as he has become the defacto Coronavirus lead for the Town Council who along with the staff have organised food boxes for vulnerable families, a support line to help with mental health at this time of crisis and launching the OpenWestbury Covid 19 Facebook page which is providing advice and support to hundreds of people in Westbury and beyond.

Whilst there are many people worthy of mention, I think the herculean efforts put in by the Town Council staff and exemplified by Ryan are definitely up there.

Cllr Michael Amos

Abigail Needs, Four Hills Care (Westbury)

Abigail is the Office Manager at Four Hills Care in Westbury. She has totally dedicated herself to her role to lead her team and is leading her team with the utmost professionalism and is a true inspiration. When running out of PPE, she, her family and friends set to the task of hand making almost 100 masks for her team to keep them safe. So whilst she was working hard throughout the day, leading her team and carrying out house calls herself, at night she was pouring over her sewing machine to make PPE to keep them safe. She deserves a huge applause, as do the entire Care industry, for the hard work and dedication she has shown throughout the COVID-19 outbreak. She is one of our best friends and we are so very proud of her.

Fiona & Mark Pugh

Medvivo Responders.

They not only go to patients. They also go to Telecare users who have the 24/7 Response facility. The team work 24/7 and cover all of Wiltshire (except Swindon). They are amazing.”

You can find out more at: https://www.medvivo.com/responder-service/

Brenda Coupland Harte

Tim Bird of Westbury of White Horse CAD Limited.

I would like to nominate Tim Bird of Westbury who is Managing Director at White Horse CAD Limited. Tim has made 3D  printed headbands for face shields and donated them to our local GP surgery of which he delivers on his daily walk.

Tim also gives his time to the community and runs a  virtual quiz for everyone on a Friday evening which is enjoyed by all.  This grew out of an online family quiz where we meet up virtually as a family from our  various locations; it keeps the family unit together and has lifted our spirits and it is something to look forward to each week since the lock down.

Angela Grist

Deborah Urch and the volunteer team at Westbury Council.

Deborah especially has been manning the office, answering the telephone (some of the residents being in a distressed state),  answering callers to the office door, organising the donations of money and food, together with the  food parcel deliveries to those in need around the town.

Deborah worked over Good Friday to enable the Easter Eggs that were donated were delivered to some of the  local children.

Also, there are so many who are working within their own streets organising information, shopping and prescriptions.

Sheila Kimmins

Postal workers.

I thank the postal workers amongst so many others, risking their safety on a daily basis.

Stephen Boddington

Ryan Child and Westbury Town Council.

Please can I nominate  Ryan Child and all his army of volunteers along with Westbury Town Council who have been helping out all the vulnerable people of Westbury with food boxes, contact for the isolated and being just brilliant all round. He has gone above and beyond and he needs a big Thank You for doing this.

Tina Devereux

Local schools and childcare providers.

All of our local schools and childcare providers that are open for vulnerable and keyworker children.

Karen Louise

Shield Wiltshire – Covid Response.

David, Annette and the team are busy making free PPE masks for front line workers using their 3D printers; they are well into the 1,000s now. Really proud Xxx

Donna-Kate Hargreaves

Local estate Martin & Co are also running a ‘Pride in Westbury & Warminster’ campaign. You can see full details on their Facebook page – just go to Facebook and search Martin & Co Westbury.

Here are their first three nominations:

Macy Wrintmore, Dilton Marsh.

We would like to put forward a remarkable young lady. Macy is home from university and has been working day and night shifts supporting the NHS, looking after patients in the local area. In between shifts, she has been working in Waitrose. She has also been self isolating from the rest of her family to protect an at risk family member.

Phoebe Muir

Phoebe is a phlebotomist at Salisbury District Hospital and during this role helps to care for Covid-19 patients. Instead of resting on her days off, she has been working as a HCA on the ITU ward caring for patients! She has also been self isolation in a motorhome to protect an at risk family member.

The Longleat Ward

Warminster Hospital. I would like to nominate The Longleat Ward at Warminster Community Hospital. They are doing a great job looking after people in the local area in these very testing times.

Do you know of any person, group or business doing great work for the community? If so, we’d love to hear about them. We want to say thank you to the amazing work being done in our community in these difficult times.

Whether it’s a community group doing inspirational work, front-line NHS or care worker, a community volunteer, a shop or key worker or any or even a helpful neighbour, please let us know and we’ll share it with the town. Where possible, please include a contact number or email address for any nominees.

Say thank you to them by emailing news@whitehorsenews.co.uk
