A free educational climate and sustainability event is coming to Westbury, offering residents expert talks, local stalls and a chance to discover ways to live more sustainably.
Westbury Town Council is hosting the ‘Sustainable, Resilient Westbury’ event at The Laverton on Thursday 30th October, with stalls from sustainability groups, guest speakers and a free lunch.
The event is designed to educate people and teach them about ways they can help themselves and the planet.
“This is not about finger-pointing, but about helping residents understand that starting small does help and there are things you can do to improve the situation, not just for you but for future generations,” said Westbury Mayor Jane Russ.
Inspiring talks
The event will feature a range of talks covering practical and inspiring ways to live more sustainably. Speakers include gardener Charlotte Howard on creating resilient gardens, meteorologist Penny Tranter on climate change, and sustainability consultant Sam Drury Shore on circular solutions such as swapping, sharing, and repairing.
Other talks will be by Mike Amos from Waste to Wonder, Professor Chad Staddon from UWE, students from the University of Chelsea, Butcher Bros Westbury, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, and a speaker to be confirmed, and will include topics such as upcycling, local food, the restorative power of nature, protecting homes from climate extremes, and small energy changes people can make to make a difference.
Live streaming
“The event will be live-streamed, so even if you can’t make it in person, you can still watch, although you will miss the stalls and talking to the speakers and, of course, the wonderful lunch produced locally by Wild Pantry,” said Cllr Russ.
The event is free to attend and will run from 10am to 5pm. Registration is required to secure a place and a free lunch. To register, visit https://www.westburytowncouncil.gov.uk/dept/sustainable-resilient-
