THE White Horse will be home to Westbury’s first Soap Box Derby, earmarked for 2021, hoping to bring excitement and visitors to the town.
Westbury Town Council’s events committee will organise the event and they are also hoping to use the initiative to work with schools in the local area to build soap boxes as part of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum.
The route of the soap box derby is yet to be agreed, but the events committee say it will be an exciting ride for all involved.
Organisers will involve local businesses, school children, residents and the town council as a way of promoting the town.
Ryan Childs, events manager at the town council said, “The White Horse Soap Box Derby will be a regional event bringing significant social, educational and economic stimulation to the area.
“We have got a couple of pretty interesting companies already interested that are willing to go into schools and run workshops and professionally engaging children in potential careers. This then follows on to the actual soapbox event in 2021.
“The main thing is that the event, first and foremost, is still at the beginning stages, we will now have to work out logistics, get companies on board, speak to schools about their involvement and hope to see the event go forward. But we are super confident that everyone will get on board and bring an upward move to the town and have a regional event to be proud of.”
