Westbury picked up an excellent home win but it took a very dubious penalty to put them ahead after which Wells were reduced to 10 men! This was a very good all round team performance to give hope of a rise up the table in the New Year.
Until the 59th minute it was a good, hard fought match played on a heavy pitch with home keeper Rob Brown unworked as the City attackers first half shots were wayward while his opposite number Ben Dancey made a few saves from Joe Murray.
It was the excellent Murray who scored from the spot on the hour when a Wells player was adjudged to have fouled Adam James as he attempted an overhead kick at a corner.
City defender Ben Higgins received a yellow card for dissent with a repeat offence 2 minutes later earning him a sending off.
United took full advantage to seal the points on 79 when a fine move saw Nathan Hallett’s cross find Charlie Walton who finished from close range to make it 2-0.
Dancey made a great save to deny Walton adding to the lead and as Wells tried to get back into the game Brown denied Billy Manning by tipping his volley wide.
