The visitors grabbed a last gasp equaliser but Westbury only have themselves to blame after missing a host of chances in the 1st half.
A good game of football was then spoilt by an unsavoury incident after the final whistle which saw United’s Mark Young red carded.
After just five minutes the impressive Matt Mead was fouled by Wellington keeper Jake Viney and Young powered in the penalty. Wellington always looked dangerous and Alex Piper produced a lovely finish but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Westbury played some excellent football and at the end of good moves both Young and Simon Millard were guilty of bad misses. They were made to pay when Piper was brought down in the box by Jake Herd; Luke Porter scored from the spot to make it 1-1 on 36.
Adam Collington was in smart form in goal, doing well when defender Kevin Shinn diverted the ball towards goal then saving confidently from Luke Redrup. United went ahead again just before half time when a poor DJ Wheeler free kick wasn’t defended properly allowing Millard to pass to the unmarked Young for an easy tap in.
The 2nd half was a different game with niggly play dominating and ultimately the frustrations spilled over. Initially Wellington’s Liam Cleal was unlucky to see a shot hit Collington’s right hand post and fly across the line to hit the other post before being cleared!
After that though there were very few openings with Young firing over the bar at one end before Westbury failed to clear their lines deep in injury time which allowed Luke Boyle the opportunity to make it 2-2. This brought frustrations to the surface as the final whistle went soon after resulting in Young’s red card.
