Westbury United FC celebrated a fantastic day of football and community spirit on Saturday, August 31st, with the official launch of the club’s youth section.
The event coincided with a thrilling FA Cup First Qualifying Round game, where Westbury’s first team secured an impressive 3-1 victory over AFC Totton whose side included ex-Premier League player Charlie Austin (see match report back page).
Club chairman Phil Hampson expressed his excitement over the day’s success. “Everything went amazingly well,” he said. “Given the great occasion, we figured what better time to welcome all our youth players to the club?”
As part of the celebration, the Under-7 and Under-9 teams had the honour of walking out with the senior players as mascots. At half-time, players from all age groups, from Under-7s to Under-18s, were invited onto the pitch, showcasing the future stars of the club.
“Coupled with the result, it really was a great day all round and gave the young kids a glimpse of where they can play one day!” added Phil.
“The launch of the youth section is a key part of Westbury United’s future vision. Our main goal is to provide a clear pathway into senior football. By heavily investing back into the youth of Westbury and educating the kids correctly, we hope they’ll be ready to make the step when the time comes.
“This focus on youth development is aimed at building a strong foundation for the club in the years ahead; the real impact of the youth section will be seen when current young players progress through the ranks and represent the first team. Hopefully, the vast majority of our playing squad for years to come will consist of great local talent that has gone up through our age groups.”
For parents and children eager to get involved, Phil encouraged them to visit the club’s website and social media channels for more information on how to join Westbury United’s growing youth programme.
“There is an exciting future ahead for the youth section,” added Phil, “and the official launch was a milestone in the club’s ongoing commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening ties with the community.”
