Sunday 8th June saw seven Westbury Walkers meet up at Southwick Country Park to tackle a lovely varied circular walk, led by Fiona Bromley, along field paths and lanes to the west and north of the start point.
Heading down Southwick Court drive, they used bridleways to circumnavigate the solar farm. Passing along the back of local houses, a couple of fields and stiles brought the group to Hoopers Pool and a second crossing of the main road. The route continued via Dillybrook and Langham Farms down to the River Frome and a picturesque lunch spot at Tellisford Weir.
After a break, and some time to stand on Tellisford Bridge and appreciate such a pretty place, it was a short stretch through flower meadows and then uphill through Tipney wood and on through long grass to Matthews Farm and Pomeroy Lane.
Some reminisced about lazy Sunday afternoons spent watching cricket from the terrace at The Poplars Pub … and then it was on through Wingfield Village to a short drink stop and an opportunity to pop inside the church at the end of the lane. So peaceful.
Yet more stiles across fields of friendly horses and after 8 1/2 miles the group were back in the familiar territory of the Country Park.
