LOCAL cycling group, Westbury Wheelers will be holding a special open day bike ride on 14th August to coincide with the Rio Olympics.
Cyclists of all abilities are welcome as long as you are capable of cycling at least 15 miles. Junior riders, over 11 years-old, are also catered for.
The group will meet at 9am on Sunday 14th August in the Market Place, Westbury BA13 3DQ. Riders should arrive 10 minutes early to prepare as ride brief starts at 9am. The ride will be on the day that Mark Cavendish rides the omnium in Rio during the evening).
The ride is split into four groups; • Green group – 15 or 25 mile ride at easiest pace for those looking to start road biking. • Blue group: 40-45 miles at approx. 14/15 mph for those slightly fitter athlete wanting more experience of group rides. • Purple group: 50-55 mile ride at approx. 15/16 mph for those fitter cyclists with some practice of group riding. • Red group: 60-65 miles at pace, must be well experienced in group riding and chain gang style rides.
Chairman of the group, Sean Price said, “Please bring a spare inner tube, a pump, water in a drinks bottle and money for a drinks stop. The cost of the ride is free.
“Westbury Wheelers take health and safety very seriously and you will be guided at the beginning and throughout the ride.”
