A WESTBURY beauty therapist is leading a fundraising drive for Marie Curie Cancer Care this month, hoping to raise £1,000.
Jo Parker runs her business, Essentially You, from Number Twelve Hairdressers.
Jo said, “During August I will be hosting one and taking part in another fund raising event. I have a team of friends and family who are all helping me and together we hope to raise £1,000! Each £20 raised pays for one hour of care, so we are hoping to be able to pay for 50 hours of care.
“We have experienced cancer in my family as have many of my friends and clients. My dad is currently being treated for prostate cancer. Dad is going to be fine, but we realise how easily it could have been a different story.
“We all felt we would like to support the Marie Curie nurses who give invaluable care to those whose prognosis has not been so good.
“As a business in Westbury I have had much support from the local community and I am now in a position to give something back. I want my business in this small town to be about more than just lining my pockets. Together we can make a difference!
“On the 14th August I am holding a coffee, cake and colour event from 10.00am until 7.00pm. Anyone can drop in and enjoy a drink with gorgeous cakes and there will be a donation tin for anyone who wishes to contribute. On the day I will be offering shape and polish, fingers or toes for £10, with half of the money being donated to the charity.
“We end the fund raising month by the team taking part in a 10k walk through the grounds of Badminton House. We are doing well so far and have raised approximately £340. But we will need the town’s support if we are to reach our £1,000 target!”
