SINGING schoolchildren of Westbury gathered at Matravers School last week to put on the annual Lions concert.
Pupils from seven schools in and around the town came together for the performance, singing songs from musicals and theatre shows.
Organiser Michal Sorga, head of music at Matravers School said, “Another year, another Lions concert! By now this is an event renowned for its exciting atmosphere and enthusiastic singing and this year was no exception.
“The theme was ‘Musical Theatre’, which allowed Matravers to once again show off the fantastic work from Oliver.
“Our primary schools also shone. From the opening number ‘Singing in the Rain’ by the littles from Westbury Infant School to the Lion King medley, performed by year five and six pupils from Bratton Primary School, the programme was filled with well-known family favourites.
“The children and the teachers worked very hard to put their items together and this showed in the quality of their pieces.
“As usual there was a joint song, which all the schools learned and which everyone sang together at the beginning and the end of the concert.
“During the concert, the audience even showed their own singing talent, learning a song called ‘Goodnight’ which was then performed alongside ‘The Five Pennies’ in the finale.
“We are really lucky in Westbury to have such a close-knit school community and I hope there will be many more Lions concerts to bring us all together and celebrate music in our community.
