A LOCAL woman will soon be walking on fire to raise money for a charity close to her heart.
Donna-Michelle Donkin will be walking barefoot over red-hot wood embers measuring around 800 degrees, on Sunday 30th March, to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The walk will be led by ‘Time 4 Change’ who regularly guide people through firewalking.
A Time 4 Change spokesperson said, “There are no tricks, no special effects. Just you and the fire.
“It’s tempting to look at firewalking and explain it with physics. But that’s not enough to dispel the primal fear caused by the feeling of intense heat on your face at the edge of the fire lane. Fear is at the centre of the experience, the fear you feel on the brink of a fire walk is incredible – all of your survival instincts are telling you to stay put. Stay where it’s safe. Don’t take the risk.”
Donna-Michelle said, “Two lovely friends of mine have also said they will join me in taking part and raising money.
“I have chosen JDRF because my little girl developed this auto-immune condition at the age of nine. She’s now twelve and has had thousands of injections of insulin and thousands of blood test as we try to mimic what her pancreas once did and regulate her blood sugars.
“Every gram of carbohydrates has to be calculated and insulin given accordingly. There are many variables that affect the blood sugar so life has become a balancing act. Cerys is a very active and compassionate young lady who makes me very proud.
“As a little family unit we constantly raise awareness of the condition, I run an online support group and we organise events to donate money to JDRF.
“The firewalk is the most nerve wracking event for me, as I felt I needed to push my comfort limits and do something a little daring for a change.”
So far Donna-Michelle has raised £170. To donate visit the Just Giving Page: www.justgiving.com/Donna-Michelle-Donkin1/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=soc spondesktop&utm_con tent=Donna-Michelle-Donkin1&utm_cam paign=post-sponsorshipdo nation-desktop.
