Saturday 13th December: Southern League Division One South: Westbury United 0-2 Bideford
There were only two moments of real quality in this match and both came from the boots of Bideford players as the visitors took advantage of a rare off day by Westbury to take home the points.
The defeat ended United’s five-game winning home run.
A stop-start first half was lit up by the opening goal on the half hour when Fin Roberts got on the end of Jack Winsor’s ball from the right and hit a fantastic left footed volley that flew into the net!
Either side of the goal United’s Sam Francis had a few chances but his finishes were either off target or saved by Leo McCormick.
The hosts started brightly after the break but without creating any chances. At the other end Bideford were more threatening with Jordan Ewing and Roberts forcing Joel Manning into saves then Winsor hit a powerful dipping shot that clipped the bar!
Aaron Cockerill got on the end of two Jamie Jordan corners but saw both of his attempts cleared off the line!
It was Winsor who had the final say on 78 when he ran onto a loose ball and struck it beautifully past Manning to make it 0-2.
Westbury huffed and puffed but couldn’t get any sustained pressure going; the closest they came was when Ryan Bole’s shot was tipped wide by McCormick.
