A delightful evening was enjoyed by members of Dilton Marsh WI at the January meeting.
A charming gentleman, Paul from ‘Meadow in My Garden’ came fully stocked with products and film to talk about his passion for planting wildflower meadows and gardens to attract butterflies, insects, bees and wildlife back into our lives.
The UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows since the 1930’s.
Paul and his family run the business and shop from Devizes and their love of wild gardens has enthused many who even with a small garden have found great success in growing wildflowers from seed mixtures, seed balls and seed mats.
There are mixes suitable for all parts of the garden even those areas shaded by trees and soil that is clay, stony or chalky. All the company’s surplus seeds are donated to schools and community projects. Paul explained that he works with a professional team who offer expert knowledge and advice.
In March 2015 a leading consumer Gardening magazine awarded all three of their tested seed mixes five stars. Every kind of soil mix was tested and scored very highly for content, flowering length, self- support, visual appeal and attractiveness to insects.
Following Paul’s talk members were able, with expert advice to purchase seeds and other gardening items together with beautiful cards. Thanks were given to Paul amidst deafening applause.
President Mickey Fitzpatrick told members that the Table Top Sale had successfully raised an admirable amount of money for ACWW and that the Christmas Dinner at a local hostelry had been a great success. Thanks were given to the members who beautifully decorated a tree for the Festival in All Saints Church.
Next month’s meeting is the election of President and Committee and review of the past year.
