AN update from Wiltshire Council.

Active Communities online resources

Our Active Communities resource page is now live on the Wiltshire Council website.

The Easter holiday is upon us and, with a lot of people stuck at home, you may be struggling with ideas of things to do, staying active or just keeping your mental health in a positive place. We’ve compiled a list of resources across a wide range of subjects to try and provide something of interest for everyone.

There’s a huge variety of resources available including the library services, online rhyme times, story times, e-books/magazines, getting creative through mediums like song, dance, art and literature and opportunities to explore Wiltshire’s history as well as keeping active.

There’s so much to get involved with to stay active and connected so do get involved if you can.

Easter egg hunt

Over the Easter weekend, little ones can join our libraries team in creating a special Wiltshire egg hunt in your local area.

Children (or grown-ups!) can colour in the eggs using the template (or create your own) and then display in your window for other children and families to spot during their daily walks.

We’d love to see the wonderful designs too, so please do share your creations via Facebook and Twitter.

Young Ambassadors Easter Festival Takeover

Young Ambassadors, aged 14 to 21, at Wiltshire Creative have also created an online Easter Takeover Festival for young people and their parents to explore and enjoy featuring different games, resources and competitions.

The current situation means they can’t present the programmes as planned, at Salisbury Arts Centre and Salisbury Playhouse. However, that’s not stopping them – and they are putting on a selection of events which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

There will be more events added each day, so do keep an eye on their website for things to enjoy.

Keeping fit and healthy

Our leisure teams have produced fitness challenges and videos that include activities for all abilities and signposting to national resources to keep people moving at home.

There are also activity packs to download and bring existing participants together for regular online group chats. From our swim school activity pack to keep children practising at home to our support pack for older people with a variety of activities to keep moving at home, there’s something for everyone so do take a look for some inspiration.

Take care of your mental health

There are some simple things you can do to help you take care of your mental health and wellbeing during times of uncertainty. Doing so will help you think clearly, and make sure you are able to look after yourself and those you care about.

Things that may help to look after your mental health during this period:

  • Stay connected with people
  • Talk about your concerns
  • Support others
  • Be prepared

Look after yourself

Can you be a C19 Superhero?

The Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is asking local people to become C19 Superheroes. The Heroes are here to help us all remember how to keep ourselves safe and well during this strange time.

Read about each hero and what you can do to be safe, alongside a range of fun activities and educational resources to entertain children during the coronavirus lockdown.

People are also being asked to stay fire safe, to avoid having bonfires and to be extra careful if taking exercise on heathland over the coming Easter weekend.
