In response to recent media coverage, Wiltshire Council would like to remind people that it is important to take note of official Government data rather than speculative reports. 
Wiltshire Council reports, “The official Government figures show the Wiltshire Council area rate is 67.4 cases per 100,000, showing figures have remained fallen in the last few weeks.
“A national news item reported figures from an organisation called joinzoe where people can put in if they have Covid-19 symptoms and from this suggested increased figures could mean Tier 3.
“However for people wanting the latest information they should follow the government data which can be found at https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/.”
Kate Blackburn, Director of Public Health for Wiltshire Council, added, “Cases in Wiltshire have been gradually reduced over recent weeks and that is due to residents in both areas following the social distancing guidelines, keeping a two metre safe distance, regularly washing hands and wearing a face covering.
“Case levels are recorded by the Government but we have no reason to believe that our areas will be increased to the very high alert tier when the tiers are reviewed on 16 December.
“Of course it is important not to be complacent and it is vital people continue to be vigilant particularly over Christmas and the New Year period.
“Wiltshire Council continues to work hard to reduce cases and I want to thank people for taking responsibility and ensuring they follow all the necessary measures.”
