PUPILS at Westbury Infant School recently had a visit from a glass artist who ran a workshop so the children could try their hand at creating glass sculptures.
The school says, “We were really lucky to have visiting artist Alex Compton from Compton Glass Workshop in Trowbridge come and run a workshop with the children. They have been learning about sculpture and mobiles and the art co-ordinator, Mrs Channon, thought it would be a wonderful way to bring the art unit alive.”
Mrs Channon added, “We were learning about mini-beasts in their habitats in our first topic this term and then we moved onto looking at mobiles inspired by Alex Calder so I thought we could merge the two together and create a mini-beast mobile using fused glass. The children loved building their mini-beast sculptures with the glass, adding wire legs and details which Alex then went away and fired so it fused together.”
Mrs Kerbey said, ‘The children loved creating their abstract beasts and can’t wait to see the finished product.”
