The annual Big Orange Stomp awareness-raising and fundraising event by the national children’s charity, Spurgeons, took place on Friday 19th June.
11-year-old carer, Alex Tilley, decided to take on a challenge to raise as many tips as he could for bagging groceries at Westbury Morrisons.
The money raised goes towards helping to fund a summer programme for young carers. This programme will include cookery workshops and sports session.
Spurgeons Young Carers in Wiltshire (SYCW) is a charity which helps young carers throughout the county by providing support, respite groups, counselling, mentoring and one-to-one sessions with young carers from ages five to 18. There are more than 400 young carers registered with SYCW across Wiltshire.
Alex said, “I was kind of scared doing this all alone but the people were very friendly and made me proud to have raised money to help. I am looking forward to the summer break and getting together with other young carer mates.”
