THE Westbury Youth Café is looking for more young people aged 11 to 18 to take part in the café’s weekly activities.
Each week the young people at the Youth Cafe enjoy a safe, relaxed space to spend time with their friends and meet new people.
The Youth Café organisers say, “Each week the young people enjoy some hot food, hot drinks and home-made cakes. The members listen to music, chat, and play games including a mega five-week long game of Monopoly! One week the young people made their own pizzas, and we are planning to have a barbecue in June. We currently have vacancies and would welcome new young people to join in the fun.”
Westbury Youth Café has been running since January in the Westbury Parish Hall. It runs every Friday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm for 11 to 19-year-olds, and it is a partnership between All Saints’ Church and 4Youth (SouthWest). The Youth Café was created as a response to the anti-social behaviour the church experienced in 2022.
It has been generously funded by the Diocese of Salisbury’s Adhelm Mission Fund, Westbury Lions, Westbury Area Churches Together and the Westbury Area Board of Wiltshire Council plus a number of generous individual donations. It has also been supported by the Morrison’s community champion scheme.
Volunteers needed
The sessions are supported by youth workers from 4Youth (SouthWest) and volunteers from the community. The volunteers help set up the hall, serve the food and drink and clear up at the end.
Organisers added, “The volunteers enjoy the evening as much as the young people! Two of our volunteers are moving from Westbury this summer and we are keen to recruit some more so that we can spread the load. Volunteers do not need any experience, but they will need to complete checks for safeguarding purposes. These are easy to do and don’t take long.”
The Youth Café depends on the generosity of local people and businesses. If you would like to support the work of the Youth Café you can do this on the church website https://whtministry.org.uk/?page_id=97
