WESTBURY and District Link is celebrating its 25th anniversary at a coffee morning at Westbury Baptist Church on Thursday 4th August from 11am.
The event will be attended by the mayor cllr Sheila Kimmins, a representative from Community First (the umbrella organisation for all Link groups in Wiltshire), current Link clients and previous volunteers including former chairs of Link and its committee members.
Talks will be given on the day from members and guests to formally acknowledge Link’s anniversary and a cake cutting will also take place.
Link has been voluntarily providing transport for people in the local area who are otherwise unable to attend important appointments for 25 years. Most of the trips are for medical reasons with Link helping because of the difficulty or expense of travelling. 30 volunteers help provide a service for to over 200 currently registered client friends in Westbury, Dilton Marsh, Chapmanslade, Heywood and Hawkeridge.
Over those 25 years, Link drivers have made approximately 25,000 trips, travelling 500,000 miles to transport those client friends to hospitals including Bath, Swindon and Salisbury as well as doctor’s surgeries, dentists, and opticians. It has also travelled as far as Bristol, Southampton and even London.
Link provides a service in return for a donation to the charitable organisation to cover its costs. It always welcomes new volunteers who want to share the experience. Find out more by visiting its website: www. westburyanddistrictlinkscheme.co.uk/
