More than £3,000 has been given to projects to support the local community in Westbury.
The Westbury Area Board has awarded £3,500 to three projects including £1,750 for car park lighting by the Edington Parish Council, £200 for Spurgeons Children Centre and £1,550 to Wiltshire Search and Rescue.
Chair of the area board, Carole King said the group was fortunate to still have some money left to give out to applicants.
Edington Parish Council applied for funding for lighting at the car park near its parish hall. The car park is the emergency assembly point for the parish hall but a recent health and safety audit found it does not meet requirements due to a lack of lighting.
Wiltshire planners said, “There is clearly a safety need to have some form of lighting installed to serve the car park.”
Next was the application for £200 from Spurgeons Children Centre who has been storing baby bundles at the Westbury Methodist Church, but because the church can’t heat the hall most of the time, some of the bundles become damp.
The bid will enable the church to heat the hall more frequently to avoid damage to the baby bundles.
These baby bundles are made up of donations for pregnant women and families in financial need.
Lastly, was a bid for £1,550 for Wiltshire Search and Rescue to assist in the search for missing vulnerable people. According to the application the funding will ensure the service can continue to run in the Westbury area. It was noted that during the pandemic there was a “sharp increase” in the number of people who went missing because of their health concerns.
