TWO visitors from a school in Nigeria are spending time at Westbury Leigh Primary School.
Teacher Monisola Olubunmi Oduwole and administration officer, Ebenezer Olumilua, from First Royal International School in Nigeria, joined staff and pupils to find out more about education in England and to share more about their culture with pupils.
The visit follows a link with the school which was set up two years ago when former headteacher, Mary Murray, and deputy head, Sue Martin, visited the country.
Sue Martin explained, “A few years ago, Mary and I were in Nigeria and we made links with the school. Pupils have been writing to each other and have a different theme when they write – the last one was celebrations.
“These two teachers are going back with ideas – it’s a steep learning curve for them. They are also going into classrooms, meeting staff, and after school going to places of interest. They’re also talking to the pupils about Nigeria – it’s a reciprocal dialogue.”
The school has recently received another grant from the British Council to help them continue their link with the school. The visitors spent last week at the school and are continuing their time there this week, as well as spending a couple of days visiting a school in Warminster.
