A KEEN cyclist from Upton Scudamore has ridden from Warminster to Northern Ireland and back again to raise money for two cancer charities.
Peter Tillin joined his two brothers and a friend to take on the 1000km cycling challenge and the group’s efforts have raised over £8,000 so far, with donations still coming in.
Peter explained, “It all started years ago when our dad died of cancer and we talked of doing something, but we all had young families. Then mum died of cancer last year and we said ‘let’s raise some money.’
“A very good friend of ours heard what we were doing and asked to join in as his dad has recently been diagnosed, so he came all the way from Singapore to join us!”
The cyclists left on Sunday 3rd July from Warminster, where Peter’s parents lived for 25 years, and reached Carrickfergus (where his mother was born and bred), before arriving back in Warminster on Saturday 9th July.
Peter, who trains regularly with the Westbury Wheelers said, “This was quite new to me, I do some races and challenges but never doing 110 miles in a day, and then again the next day, and the day after that! We set out to raise as much as possible, we said if we could get to £5,000 that would be great, so we’re really pleased. We’ve still got people yet to donate, we’re up to £8,000 and we think we’ve got another £2,000 so we’d love to get to £10,000.”
