WESTBURY United has a new management team in the form of father and son, Neil and Joe Kirkpatrick.
Joe, who also plays in the team, will be the manager and his dad Neil will be assistant manager. The pair took over the reins after James Goddard and his assistant Karl Freeman were released by the club in January.
Both have previous experience in managerial roles and are looking forward to the rest of the season and a successful future.
Neil said, “I haven’t managed a team in a while, but Joe’s dragged me out of retirement – I was just getting into playing golf but those days are gone! I’m pleased to get back into it though and obviously working with my son is great. Looking forward, we need to assess the players we have and identify what changes need to be made for next season.
“We need to adopt a winning mentality and change the negative attitude. In recent games when the lads have gone one goal behind, heads dropped and confidence drops. We need to change this so we’re at the right end of the table.
“The potential in the team is definitely there, we just need to work on fitness and get ourselves organised. With the talent we have, we’re half-way there. We’ve just got to get a few things in order.
“The Toolstation League is tough and it takes no prisoners, so we need to make sure we improve to take things up a level.
“Of course it’s going to be a challenge and take time; Rome wasn’t built in a day. We’ve got a young and talented squad, but we need to be better organised and fitter.”
