YOUNG people in Westbury have benefitted from over £20,000 of funding towards various projects and activities in the town.
Last year, Wiltshire Council launched a project which sees funding made available specifically for activities for young people in the county.
Between June 2016 and April 2017, £20,080 was awarded in funding to groups and organisations in Westbury which provide positive activities for young people living in the Westbury Community Area.
With the right support, the council believes that empowering young people and the community in this way will better deliver what young people want themselves.
The groups in the Westbury area who received funding were as follows:
• Fairfield Farm College was awarded £7,056 towards sports equipment and part funding towards their transport project.
• Youth Adventure Trust received £3,024 towards outdoor activities. The Youth Adventure Trust takes disadvantaged young people aged 11-14 from Wiltshire and Swindon on a Youth Adventure Programme.
• Matravers School was awarded £5,000 towards a Community Learning Resources Centre LRC
• Dorset & Wiltshire Fire received £5,000 towards a Salamander Project. The project provides a personal development programme for young people at risk of or currently engaging in anti-social behaviour.
Locality youth facilitator for Westbury, Jan Bowra said, “I would like to thank all those who were instrumental in making this possible and for the groups that came forward in support of young people in the Westbury Community Area by taking advantage of this offer.”
