Pupils from Matravers School in Westbury treated a packed hall of parents, governors and staff to a variety of performances in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association on Tuesday 6th December.
The event was the idea of a year 11 pupil following the diagnosis of assistant headteacher, Alistair Banks, with motor neurone disease (MND). Alistair is fronting the MND ‘Incurable Optimist Awareness Campaign’ and, as a keen drummer, the pupils felt that a concert showcasing the school’s musical talents would be an ideal way to raise valuable funds.
The performances were wide ranging and included a beat boxer, a song from Phantom of the Opera and ‘Chasing Cars’ by Snow Patrol among many others.
In addition to the concert, four pairs of tickets to see Coldplay in one of their five UK stadium shows in June, plus a signed CD, were kindly donated by one of the parents. These will be auctioned by sealed bid, with bidding open until Friday 20th January. If you would like to make a bid, full details can be found on the school website.
The school says, “The whole evening was a great success thanks to the hard work of the music staff and students, and it was lovely to see so much talent and support. To date, the event has raised £900.
